Team Porsche New Zealand set to contest Porsche Carrera Cup Asia

With his Team EBM (Earl Bamber Motorsport), Porsche works driver Earl Bamber will campaign a 485-hp Porsche 911 GT3 Cup in the 2019 Porsche Carrera Cup Asia Championship as ‘Team Porsche New Zealand’ – supported by the Official Porsche Centres of New Zealand.

The driving duties for the 7 round championship will fall with Earl’s younger brother Will Bamber. The Whanganui born driver is now a seasoned Carrera Cup racer having competed in the Asian championship for 2 full-seasons, achieving 5 overall victories, 17 podiums and the 2017 Rookie championship along with representing Asia at the Porsche International Scholarship Shootout.

Notably, it was two titles in the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia Championship (2013/2014) that propelled older brother Earl on to a Porsche Scholarship drive in the Mobil1 Supercup – an opportunity that Will is also aiming to utilise and propel his career. Earl has since become a 2x Le Mans winner (2015/2017) and World Endurance Champion (2017).

Will has already tasted success in the 2019 Championship with a quickest time during the preseason test in Shanghai over the weekend. The two-day test was held ahead of the opening round supporting the Formula 1 round this coming weekend.

Will Bamber
25-year-old Will Bamber was born and raised in Whanganui, New Zealand, surrounded by vehicles and motorsport. Will soon realised an ambition to pursue a career in Motorsport. Following national and international karting success, his racing career was then forged in touring cars which culminated in racing in New Zealand’s premier championship, V8Supertourers. To advance his career, Will needed to move offshore. For the past four years, based from Malaysia, Will has coached and instructed throughout SEA, whilst harnessing opportunities in the regions leading championships. From establishing new contacts and support, he finally got his opportunity in 2017 to compete in the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia. Since, he has become one of Asia’s most exciting prospects, winning China GT, Asian Le Mans and other endurance titles, his final target is the PCCA championship.
