Despite very wet conditions, Andre Heimgartner has joined with Devon Modell to bring home ninth in the first of two races being held in China this weekend for the final round of the 2017 Blancpain GT Asia Series.
Heimgartner has been called up to the leading Craft Bamboo Racing outfit to drive the #88 Porsche 911 GT3 R usually piloted by Mondell and Nick Foster.
“I am really enjoying my time with Craft Bamboo Racing in China this weekend. It is really great to be racing for such a well-known and widely respected team, and they are absolute professionals on and off the track,” Heimgartner said.
“I am having a lot of fun, and I am looking forward to seeing what the rest of this weekend brings with another 60 minutes of racing ahead of us tomorrow.
“Today’s race was very wet. Devon started and then I took over in sixth position. Unfortunately, I was battling with car balance and was struggling to get the car to grip to the road properly which saw me unable to hold onto the position, falling back to ninth.
“The good news is that we know what we have to work on and I am confident that come tomorrow, we will be in a strong position to challenge for higher positions amongst what is a very competitive field.”
The 2017 Blancpain GT Series Asia is based on the tried and tested British GT Championship format and is recognised as one of the most successful national GT series in the world. This weekend’s event is the finale for the 2017 season.
Sunday will host a further sixty-minute race, with the action to be live-streamed at http://www.blancpain-gt-series-asia.com/live
