Young Auckland karter Maxim Kirwan made a little bit of Hampton Downs Top Half Series’ history at the final 2018 round in Tokoroa on Sunday November 11 – at just seven years of age he is the youngest drivee to claim series honours in the International Kart Supplies-sponsored Cadet ROK class.

He did it in style too, being one of only three class winners at the meeting to take round victory with four heat wins from five starts.

Kirwan also finished third in the round’s Giltrap Group/Robert Cunningham Construction/Duffett Doors-backed Dash-For-Cash race, behind winner Carson Daly and Ethan Church.

It was Kirwan’s second class round win of the 2018 series (he claimed his first class win at the third round at Whangarei at the end of September). Second on the day was Rnd 1 class winner Riley Boswell, third Rnd 2 class winner Ethan Church.

Boswell also ended up second to Kirwan in the overall class series’ rankings with Church third and Jamie Thompson fourth.

The other karter who claimed round and overall series class wins with a dominant four-wins-from five starts at KartSport Tokoroa’s Stihl Shop Tokoroa Kart Raceway was Mitchell Sparrow from Tuakau in the Supreme Kart Supplies-sponsored Vortex Mini ROK class. Sparrow, 16, the reigning National Schools champion in the class, won the round from Ashton Phipps and Jake Young, and the class series’ title from Taylor Payne, Hunter Robb and Ashton Phipps.

Other class winners at the round were Josh Richmond (Spartan Auto Dismantlers Junior Rotax), Sam Hunter (Urban Performance 125cc Rotax Max Light), Aarron Cunningham (TCB Motorsport 125cc Rotax Max Heavy), Shannon Noble (WRB Karting Supplies ClubSport 120), Jason Lee (Right Karts Rotax DD2), and Rhys Tinney (Westspeed Motorsport KZ2), and Ben Stewart (Supreme Kart Supplies Vortex ROK DVS Junior).

Josh Richmond and Jason Lee also claimed series’ honours in their respective classes.

In the other classes series honours went to Leo Scott (Vortex ROK DVS Jnr), Stephen Muggeridge (Club Sport 120), Brandon Lambert (KZ2), Caleb Hartley (125cc Rotax Max Heavy) and Braedan Snowden (125cc Rotax Max Light).

Awards at the final were also made to Sam Wright (Most Improved Senior) and Dylan Grant (Most Improved Junior).
