South Island teams’ take titles home

South Island teams took home four national titles at the NZ Endurance Championship held last weekend at Pukekohe Park Raceway, Auckland. Twenty-five cars from the Carters Tyres South Island Endurance Series contested the One and Three Hour finals and retained the North v South Inter-Island Trophy.

“We had two great races with no major damage which was awesome given the trying conditions,” commented Chris Dunn, the South Island Endurance Series co-ordinator. “It’s a testament to both our fast and slower drivers for all being courteous throughout the event. The races certainly weren’t boring either with multiple cars leading each race and both races had passes for the lead in the dying stages which made for thrilling finishes.”

Out of the nine classes contested across the two races the SIERDC (South Island Endurance Racing Drivers Club) team won four, against five won by the NIERDC.

“Having a competitive team of cars and our SIERDC cars clinching both the 1hr and 3hr New Zealand titles helped us clinch the main prize, retaining the North v South challenge and become the first to win it in the opposite island.”

Teams will now focus on preparation for both the separate North and South Island Endurance series.

The dates for our 2018 Carters Tyres South Island Endurance Series are
Rd 1 – Teretonga Park Invercargill – 15 September 2018
