An epic battle for wins and podiums will resume this weekend as Teretonga Park in Invercargill hosts the third round of the 2021/22 Yokohama South Island Formula 1600 Championship. There have been four different winners in four different chassis in the six races so far this season as the intensity across the field picks up over the six-round season.
Rookie Louis Sharp (Spectrum 015) has two race wins and leads the Series from another two-time winner, Matthew Hamilton (Van Diemen RF88), followed by Zac Christensen (Ray GR20) and Simon Hunter (Mygale SJ08A), both with a win each.

Hot on their heals are a number of drivers, all with new Ray-chassis cars, looking to step up onto the podium. 2019 champion Jack Noble-Adams is debuting a brand-new Ray GR21 and knows how to win. Also, in the mix are Alex Crosbie (Ray GR21), Daniel Brown (Ray GR21) and Dylan Petch (Ray GR20).
Invercargill’s Harry Wilson (Mygale SJ12) has shown enormous improvement this season while rookie’s Blake Knowles (Van Diemen RF05), Harry MacDonald (Van Diemen RF88) and Will Kitching (Van Diemen RF98) head into the weekend after all showing good form at a recent Canterbury Car Club meeting.
Saturday morning sees qualifying and a $500 cash prize from the Hampton Downs New Zealand Racing Academy for the fastest driver. The first race takes place on Saturday afternoon with two races on Sunday.
