Hedge third as Burcher scores maiden Formula Ford win at Wakefield

Cody Burcher Motorsport has scored his maiden national Formula Ford race win in Race 1 at Wakefield Park, the first win for Synergy Motorsport and Spectrum and Sabre Racing Cars since Race 1 at Round 4 of 2018 at Sandown.

Starting third, Burcher made his way past both Callum Hedge and Angelo Mouzouris Motorsport as the three fought tooth-and-nail throughout the 12-lap encounter. The Orange, NSW local found the lead by Lap 8, as Hedge and Mouzouris battled for second as Burcher negotiated lapped traffic well to take the win by 1.4 seconds.

Championship contenders Zac Soutar and Tom Sargent swapped positions early for fourth and fifth respectively.

#5 Callum Hedge

Sargent was involved in a ferocious battle pack involving Jake Donaldson, Courtney Prince and Jay Hanson early in the race. An incident at the final corner on Lap 4 featuring Hanson, Sargent and Donaldson saw Hanson fail to finish as a result of damage from contact.

Spencer Ackermann, Ben Bargwanna Racing and Lachlan Mineeff Motorsport completed the top ten.

Starting eighth, Mineeff fell into the gravel at Turn 1 on the opening lap, and charged back through the field from 27th to finish inside the top ten in an impressive fightback for the CHE Racing Team driver.
