The Virgin Australia Supercars Championship “business end of the season” is underway following today’s launch of the 2018 Pirtek Enduro Cup.
Introduced in 2013, the Pirtek Enduro Cup is awarded to the driver and co-driver that accumulate the most points from the three Endurance events on the calendar, the RABBLE.club Sandown 500, Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 and Vodafone Gold Coast 600.
Defending Pirtek Enduro Cup Champions, Chaz Mostert and Steve Owen, now driving in different Tickford Falcons, were today joined by the 2017 Sandown 500 winners Cam Waters and Richie Stanaway along with new Tickford co-driver David Russell, to launch the Pirtek Enduro Series just two days out from the RABBLE.club Sandown 500.
While the drivers will be joining new co-drivers for this year’s Endurance Series, all say the Pirtek Cup is firmly within their sights following a strong of success last year, which began with Waters and Stanaway’s breakthrough victory at Sandown.
Mostert and Owen went on to become the first Ford pairing to claim the Pirtek Enduro Cup following consistent performances across the Sandown, Bathurst and Gold Coast events in 2017.
Drivers now turn their attention to this weekend’s racing at Sandown, which will again be Retro Round for Supercars.
Fifteen teams will be donning famous colours of the past for this week’s event. A media call will be held at the track on Thursday morning to celebrate the start of Retro Round.
Practice begins on Friday morning ahead of qualifying and two races for the grid on Saturday, before Sunday’s 500km race around the historic Sandown track gives an early insight into who may be this year’s Pirtek Enduro Cup Champions.
