Pole for van Gisbergen in Adelaide

Red Bull Holden Racing Team driver Shane van Gisbergen has claimed provisional pole for the Adelaide 500 with fellow Kiwi Scott McLaughlin from Shell V-Power Racing setting the second fastest time in qualifying. Van Gisbergen recorded a 1:20.2467s to lead the way into tomorrow’s Top 10 Shootout, McLaughlin a time of 1:20.2476.

“Practice was going good, the car felt nice from the start and we just chased it all day trying to get a good tune up,” commented van Gisbergen. “It felt always fast but we just were just learning what the new aerodynamics required around a track like this. Qualifying went alright; a good session, we were in amongst it the whole time and ended up at the front.”

“I’m pretty happy with that, it’s a great start to the year,” commented McLaughlin. “Shane and I were separated by a fraction of a second in the same session last year, so it’s amazing to have the same thing happen again twelve months later. I’m looking forward to having the track to myself tomorrow in the Shootout, and giving it a big crack around this place.”

Other Kiwi drivers in action included Andre Heimgatner qualifying 11th for Nissan Motorsport (1:20.5604), Richie Stanaway 16th with Tickford Racing (1:20.8020) and Fabian Coulthard 18th (Shell V-Power Racing 1:20.8532).

The ARMOR ALL Top 10 Shootout starts at 11:55am on Saturday, with the opening 78-lap race to follow at 3:20pm Australian time.
