Trackhouse Racing’s Shane van Gisbergen won the Busch Light Pole Award in Saturday’s qualifying for Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series race at Sonoma (Calif.) Raceway.
It was the three-car Chevrolet organization’s third pole award of the 2025 season and sixth since forming in 2021. It marked Van Gisbergen’s fourth Busch Light pole of his career and third in the No. 88 Chevrolet.
Van Gisbergen also won the pole for this afternoon’s Xfinity Series race, driving the No. 9 Chevrolet for JR Motorsports. He won the pole for the Mexico City Cup race last month, and the pole and the race in both Xfinity and Cup in Chicago.
The New Zealander was pleased with his pole in a qualifying session that saw Chevrolet sweep four of the top five starting spots.
“Yeah, it’s pretty awesome,” said Van Gisbergen. “We’ve had a really cool couple of weeks. You just feel the energy in the shop when you walk in on Monday and Tuesday, even with the stay-at-home guys and girls preparing the cars. It’s just a cool atmosphere in the shop. Everyone’s lifted up. Ross’s win kind of started it at the Coke 600, and we just got better and better. So yeah, it’s really cool for everyone.”
The Justin Marks-owned Trackhouse team owns 11 victories since it formed as a single-car team with Daniel Suárez. It added Ross Chastain in 2021 and Van Gisbergen in 2025. It occasionally fields a Chevrolet under the PROJECT91 banner for international driving stars like Kimi Raikkonen, Helio Castroneves and Van Gisbergen.
Chastain will start fourth and Suárez will start 19th on Sunday.
