Brendon Hartley has scored a driver’s rating of 6/10 by Autosport.com. In its post-Grand Prix analysis, Autosport.com gives a rating and explanation for each F1 driver and in turn gives readers an opportunity to also rate each driver.
In giving Hartley a 6/10, the website explains…
“Hartley’s pace continues to be better than it looks superficially, but in qualifying he was again on the wrong side of a slender time split to Gasly as he fell in Q1 after lapping two-tenths slower. He ended up gambling on stopping early after a risky start on hypersofts, and from there the die was cast. Getting forced almost to a standstill against a wall by Sirotkin didn’t help, but his race was gone by then anyway.‘
His team mate Pierre Gasly scores a seven and Autosport comments: ‘The Toro Rosso was hardly the car of choice in Singapore, and Gasly did a solid enough job in the circumstances even if his Q2 performance wasn’t as good as it might have been. Starting on hypersofts meant his gains on the first lap ultimately went to waste, and he ended up about where you would expect a decently-driven Toro Rosso to be.’
Interestingly those that scored less than Hartley include:
– Sergio Perez 4/10 – “The collision at Turn 3 on the opening lap with team-mate Ocon was avoidable and Perez’s fault but at least partly justified by the fact he maybe had his eye on Grosjean to the left. What was inexcusable was subsequently getting annoyed behind Sirotkin’s very wide Williams and side-swiping him in frustration.’
– Kevin Magnussen 5/10 – “He couldn’t get the tyres working as well as Grosjean in qualifying despite an identical approach and was the worst performer relative to a team-mate in the field.”
Three drivers scored perfect 10/10 – winner Lewis Hamilton, Max Verstappen and McLaren’s Fernando Alonso!
