A stamp of approval from Mr Akio Toyoda

Competing in the FIA World Endurance Championship, the TOYOTA GAZOO Racing team must have confidence heading to the 24 Hours of Le Mans in August (21-22) knowing that they have the full support from the President of Toyota Motor Corporation, Mr Akio Toyoda.

Akio Toyota has penned an open letter of congratulations to their #7 winning GR010 HYBRID which came first in the 6 Hours of Monza race in Italy on Sunday.  At the same time, he apologised to Brendon Hartley’s #8 team saying, ‘We were not able to prepare a car that you can drive without reliability concerns so I’m sorry to all the drivers.’

Akio Toyoda has been the president of Toyota since June 2009 and is the grandson of Kiichiro Toyoda, who founded both Toyota Motors and the Takashimaya department stores corporation, Shinshichi Iida. Kiichiro’s father, Sakichi Toyoda, was both a Japanese inventor and industrialist who first started the Toyoda family companies.

Akio Toyoda also went on to say:

To all team members,

Please listen the voice of the drivers, who are the ones ‘talking’ with the car and the road. That is only way to make the car stronger. Please make an ever-better car for the drivers to fight with an easier and better feeling.

Kazuki (Nakajima), Séb (Buemi), Brendon (Hartley), Kamui (Kobayashi), Mike (Conway), José (López),

Your voices will strengthen the car. Whenever you hear even the smallest voice from the car, tell the mechanics or engineers.

Let’s make this car much stronger, as one team.

Impressive leadership with empathy, I say, and from a top man at the helm.
