Nick Cassidy and Ryo Hirakawa have finished seventh in the latest round of the AUTOBACS Super GT Series in their #37 KeePers TOM’S GR Supra at the Suzuka Circuit.
The FUJIMAKI GROUP SUZUKA GT 300km RACE (Round 3) of the 2020 series took place without spectators, due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, in hot 32-degree mid-summer conditions.
The No. 23 MOTUL AUTECH GT-R (Tsugio Matsuda/Ronnie Quintarelli) came through with a magnificent first win of the season in a race interrupted by three Safety Car breaks. The GT300 class race was won by a NISSAN GT-R, the #11 GAINER TANAX GT-R (Katsuyuki Hiranaka/Hironobu Yasuda).
Cassidy and Hirakawa qualified 11th fastest, carrying an extra 58kg of weight (success ballast) having won the opening round at Fuji Speedway. Both Cassidy and Hirakawa were each able to move up the order, taking advantage of a safety periods to finish seventh overall.
The series continues to be led by the #38 ZENT GR Supra of Yuhi Sekiguchi and Sacha Fenestraz who finished a third, despite carrying 60kgs of ballast.
The fourth round takes place at Twin Ring Motegi 12-13 September.
