The Mexico Formula One Grand Prix takes place at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez this weekend. For Kiwi driver Liam Lawson, teammate Isack Hadjar and their Visa Cash App Racing Bulls team it is all about scoring points and maintaining their sixth place on the all-important Constructor’s Championship table.

They sit 39-points behind Williams and just three-points ahead of Aston Martin Racing.

“Our next race forms the second part of a double header and we have a quick turn-around between Austin and the Autodromo Hermanos Rodríguez circuit in Mexico City,” commented Tim Goss, RB Chief Technical Officer. “This circuit is unique in that it sits at an altitude of over 2000m.

“The thin air has the effect of reducing the amount of downforce and drag the car generates from its bodywork, and whilst in the past the engine also saw a drop in performance, this is less of an effect in the turbocharged era. Despite the fact that we use our larger rear wing setting to regain the load and grip, the car’s top speeds are still relatively high.

“The circuit characteristics are a mix of a long high-speed straight, and a balance of higher and lower speed corners, including the final few corners through the packed grandstands of the former baseball stadium. It remains incredibly tight and competitive in the mid-field and we look forward to the challenge of securing some vital championship points.”

“It’s great to be back in Mexico,” said Lawson. “It’s a very unique race as the high altitude makes the cars very difficult to drive. The air is thin, so we reach very high speeds, but it also increases sliding in the corners due to the low grip. The atmosphere here is always incredible, which is amazing for F1. To be part of the race this weekend among the fans is something I’m very much looking forward to.“
