Great start for Bray in the USA

Kiwi karter Daniel Bray has jumped into an early S1 class lead in the 2016 Superkarts USA Pro Tour points standings after a dominant performance on the second day of competition at the first double-header round of the season at Glendale in Arizona.

The 28-year-old from Auckland qualified quickest and shared heat wins with fellow international – and winner of the S1 class Final at the big SKUSA SuperNationals meeting in Las Vegas in November last year – Danny Formal, before winning the start and leaded Sunday’s S1 class Final from start to finish.

Bray also qualified second quickest on the first day of competition on Saturday but ended up eighth in the Rnd 1 Final after being caught out on a drying track on full wet tyres.

That race was won by top US driver Billy Musgrave but neither he nor highly-rated compatriot Joey Wimsett could make any impression on Bray or Formal on Sunday.

This year Bray is driving for the Guadalajara, Mexico-based VCI/GP team which will have a major presence at all three Pro Tour weekends.

The Kiwi is a former winner of the SKUSA S1 class title (2011) and finished third in 2012 and second in 2014 before only contesting the final SuperNationals round at Las Vegas in November last year.
