Heartache for Cassidy; Button takes first Super GT win

Ex F1 world champion Jenson Button has won his maiden Super GT Series race at Sugo Sportsland in Japan and now with co-driver Naoki Yamamoto take the lead of the championship with two races remaining.

Kiwi Nick Cassidy and co-driver Ryo Hirakawa went into the round with the lead but also with extra weight penalties. Having qualified ninth, they were to find themselves down in 13th position with five laps remaining. Hirakawa unfortunately crashed his #1 TOM’S Lexus several laps from the finish.

I’m glad to see the end of an average weekend for us,” commented Cassidy. “We were looking good for a points finish until we had car issues. Congrats to Mr Button for his first win in the series.. we will be back!”

The next race is at the AUTOPOLIS 20-21 October.
