Liam Lawson heads into the second round of the 2021 DTM season at the Lausitzring circuit this weekend. A spectacular banked corner and fans in the stands await the Red Bull AlphaTauri AF Corse team and its drivers Alex Albon and Lawson at the German track with the Kiwi lying second overall in the #30 Ferrari 488 GT3 Evo 2020.
Lawson has 27-points, after winning the season opener around the iconic Monza circuit in Italy – also his first ever DTM race – and qualifying second for race two. His dream start meant that he became the youngest race winner in the history of the series, at just 19 years and 128 days.
“The Lausitzring is a track I have raced on twice before already,” said Lawson. “It’s a very tight, technical track, especially now with the oval it will be a great challenge. It will definitely be difficult to overtake, so I hope we will have some decent racing and our pace is good. It would be great to have another solid weekend in the points.”
Albon lines up in the #23 Ferrari 488 GT3 Evo 2020 – in the colours of Red Bull’s premium fashion brand AlphaTauri – with the Thai driver fifth in the DTM standings ahead of the second race weekend. The 25-year-old finished fourth and seventh in his first two races, earning him 18 points.
Lausitzring’s Turn 1 is a 300-metre left-hander in the circuit’s tri-oval with a banking of almost six degrees. As the new layout was not used in the official tests at the start of May, drivers will be provided with an optional 40-minute track test on Friday to familiarise themselves with the new conditions.
