After the difficulties of Saturday’s Round 7 race, Will Bamber has won Sunday’s Round 8 of the 2017 Porsche Carrera Cup Asia held at the Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia.

Bamber retired early in race 7 but Sunday saw him immediately jump to the front past rivals Martin Ragginger and fellow Kiwi Chris van der Drift.

After a safetly car period the trio battled to the end. However van der Drift was overtaken by Philip Hamprecht with three laps to go.

After a review by race officials, Hamprecht was excluded from Round 8 (Steward’s Decision No. 31). With that van der Drift advanced a position to third in the round.

With a podium finsh, van der Drift has cemented his position at the top of the series on 161 points, just eight points ahead of Martin Ragginger in second overall (154 points). Will Bamber is now well within reach of the two former Carrera Cup Asia Champions on 147 points. Rounding out the top 5 overall is the #PorscheChinaJunior duo Andrew Tang (117 points) and Da Sheng Zhang (107 points).
