Dale Wood has secured back-to-back race victories at Albert Park in round two of the Porsche Wilson Security Carrera Cup Australia championship while an impressive Friday performance by Tim Miles ended Roger Lago’s TAG Heuer Pro-Am win streak.
Starting from pole position, race one winner Wood held the lead into the opening corner and, much like the opening race, the safety car was soon called to the circuit after Max Twigg’s and John Steffensen’s cars were recovered from the circuit. Twigg spun, seemingly caused by damaged incurred by an earlier altercation with Peter Major, while Steffensen spun in an effort to avoid Twigg, making contact with the barrier.
Once the safety car departed the circuit, Wood was left with a charging Jaxon Evans in his rear view mirrors. Despite the race-long pressure from the young Michelin Junior, Wood managed to hold his race lead and claim his third race win of the season.
“The wins aren’t coming easy by any means. I feel out of place at the moment; I don’t feel like we’ve got the car working where I want it. But I have no complaints, we have a win from another tough race. We’ll try to get it sorted and go again tomorrow,” said Wood.
Wood took the chequered flag in a closely fought battle pack consisting of second placed Evans, David Wall, James Moffat, Alex Davison and Michael Almond in sixth.
Tim Miles capitalised on Roger Lago’s slow start to claim the race two class victory, his first of the season. Following Lago’s poor start and Twigg’s lap one dramas, Miles was able to manage the gap to next best TAG Heuer Pro-Am racer to eventually claim his first class win of the season, ending Lago’s four-race win streak.
“I’m thrilled with that result. It’s such a tough and competitive field so it’s great to eventually get a Pro-Am race win,” said Miles.
“The car has been perfect since the beginning of the year, to be honest. And this weekend, if you can be sensible and behave you can get a better result that by pushing too hard.”
Dean Cook and Greg Taylor placed second and third in class for race two, their best class results of the season, from Lago in fourth and TAG Heuer Pro-Am pole-sitter Stephen Grove in fifth after starting from the rear of the field due to a race one DNF.
Porsche Wilson Security Carrera Cup Australia will hold its third and fourth race of round two on Saturday and Sunday
