Toughest ever Hi-Tec Oils Bathurst 6 Hour grid set

One of the most competitive fields of Production Cars yet to tackle the famed Mount Panorama circuit will line-up for the 2021 Hi-Tec Oils Bathurst 6 Hour this Easter.

62 cars representing 15 different brands and more than 35 models will contest the six-hour race on Easter Sunday, just the second time in event history the race has attracted more than 60 entries.

However, the field is arguably the most competitive ever assembled for the Showroom showdown: with a host of outright contenders chasing the overall Bathurst victory and strong competition throughout the eight different classes that will each fight for a place on the Mount Panorama podium.

“Given the events of the last twelve months, we’re thrilled with the size, depth and quality of this year’s Hi-Tec Oils Bathurst 6 Hour field,” commented Ken Collier – Bathurst 6 Hour Event Director.

“Just 15 endurance races in the long history of racing Mount Panorama have ever seen more than 60 cars – including the Bathurst 6 Hour in 2017 – so this years race is one for the record books.

“It’s particularly great to see the depth of the field throughout each class, as well as the number of new cars that have been built especially for people to tackle the race.

“The depth of driving talent throughout the field and the level of competition points towards an immensely competitive race this Easter.”

The entry list is led by a record eight-car entry in the outright class (X – Ultimate Performance), made up of BMW M3 and M4 models, and a lone HSV GTS.

BMW are yet to be defeated in the Bathurst 6 Hour, and the Ultimate Performance class includes the two most recent winning teams: Sherrin Racing, who won in 2018, and the Bruce Lynton BM Service M3 of 2019 winners Beric Lynton and Tim Leahey.

Class A1 (Extreme Performance, Forced Induction) includes the always-competitive Mitsubishi Lancers and Mercedes-AMG A45s, while A2 (Extreme Performance, Normally Aspirated) will feature the debut of Ford’s Mustang at Mount Panorama in Production Car form. Four of the V8-powered coupes are locked into the field this year.

Like Class A, Class B for High Performance cars is broken into two categories (Forced Induction or Normally Aspirated) and includes more BMWs and Holden’s venerable Commodore SS.

An eight-strong battle in Class C will see hot hatches like the Renault Megane RS, Mazda 3 MPS and HSV Astra VXR do battle, while there are seven cars in Class D for slightly less high-performance hatchbacks and coupes – including the Toyota 86 GTS.

The ‘Baby Car’ category, Class E, includes four cars; two Suzuki Swift Sports and a pair of Mazda 3s.

The full driver roster for the 2021 Hi-Tec Oils Bathurst 6 Hour will include more than 150 drivers – nearly half of the field electing to run three drivers this year.

The full list of drivers will be released closer to the event.

The race and key categories, including Supercheap Auto TCR Australia’s Bathurst will be broadcast live on the screens of Seven across the 3-4 April weekend, with the entire six-hour race to be shown live on 7mate on Easter Sunday.

Tickets, camping and corporate hospitality packages remain on sale for the event, with details available via the Bathurst 6 Hour website; www.bathurst6hour.com.au
