After providing some of the best motor racing battles of last summer another exciting season of Nexen Tyre NZ Mazda Racing Series action is on the horizon with the dates for the 2024/2025 season now confirmed.
The season will feature a National Championship and respective North and South Island Championships, and all three calendars have been finalised.
Nexen Tyre are back on board and Director Mark Tordoff says that they are “definitely proud to take part again. The series people are amazing, good buggers, and they make you feel a part of it. It is good for our brand which is what you expect from a partner. We hear positive things regarding our support and the series guys are really positive,” says Tordoff, a former kartsport competitor of note.
Chairman of the Nexen Tyre NZ Mazda Racing Series, Steven Spear, says “we are extremely grateful to carry through the support from Nexen Tyre that we have had for six years now. They have been a long-time supporter and are great to work with. They are a fantastic brand and we are proud to have their name on our series.”
Highlights of the upcoming 2024/2025 season include running on the programme at several of the high-profile Motorsport NZ Premier Championship events including the prestigious New Zealand Grand Prix meeting at Highlands Motorsport Park in Cromwell over the weekend of 7-9 February 2025.
While the National rounds take place at the height of summer each of the island championships kick off in October with the South Island Championship leading off with their first round at Euromarque Motorsport Park at Ruapuna in Christchurch over the weekend 12/13 October with the North Island Championship commencing at Circuit Manfeild Chris Amon a week later (18-20 October).
Each championship has one further round before Christmas – the South Island at Levels Raceway in Timaru on 2-3 November and the North at Taupo International Motorsport Park over the weekend of 22-24 November.
Action resumes early in the New Year with Round 3 of the North Island Series at Hampton Downs over the weekend of 17-19 January before the National Championship commences at Teretonga Park in Invercargill over the weekend of 31 January to 2 February, a round that is also Round 3 of the South Island Championship. A week later Highlands Motorsport Park in Cromwell hosts Round 2 of the National Championship which also doubles as the fourth and final round of the South Island Championship, a venue where the categories first champion of the season will be crowned.
After that all the action is in the North Island. Over the weekend of 15/16 March Round 4 of the North Island Championship takes place at Hampton Downs while two weeks later the third round of the National Championship and the fifth of the North Island Championship takes place at Taupo.
The season ends with the final round of both the National and North Island Championship at Circuit Manfeild Chris Amon from 5-6 April.
Chris White Junior of Prebbleton near Christchurch won both the National and South Island titles last year while Warren Crowther of Auckland took the North Island Championship. Neither will contest the respective series this year leaving the door open for possibly some new names to feature.
