Forman enters McLaren GT4 in Rodin Cars Super GT Series

Brent Forman will enter his visually striking McLaren 570 GT4 in the Rodin Cars Super GT Series when the all-new category gets underway at Highlands Motorsport Park in January next year.

Forman’s car is a 2017 McLaren 570 GT4, which arrived in New Zealand in March straight out of the European Pure McLaren series. Prior to shipping to New Zealand, it received an update to current specifications at McLaren’s factory in Woking, United Kingdom.

With his car run out of MacKenzie Motorsport, alongside fellow McLaren racer Nigel Cromie in his 2021 570 GT4, Forman says he’s not just there to make up numbers and has every intention of being near the front of the field.

“I am taking this one seriously. Being a proper GT4 class race with very similar cars, it will mean fantastic and perhaps unpredictable racing, I can’t wait to get started,” says Forman.

“I definitely intend being at the sharp end of the GT4 class and hopefully one of the lead McLaren’s. It may take a few laps to get my ‘mojo’ back as with lockdown it has been months since I’ve seen a track.”

With a handful of seasons under his belt in the BMW Driver Series, he has already entered the newly acquired McLaren in the 1-hour race of the North Island Endurance Series at Hampton Downs where he finished 3rd in GT-C and 11th Overall.

“The BMW driver series, which I’ve raced in for the last three years has been great, but it has been decimated this year with Covid cancellations. However, I’m still hopeful of a race or two before heading to Highlands for round one in January.”

No fewer than seven McLaren GT4 cars will line up in the series, with Forman saying his fellow McLaren owners and drivers are eager to get their machinery out on track.

“The McLaren GT4 car is beautifully balanced and a dream to drive. Like myself, the other McLaren owner-drivers have been waiting for just such an event – We are fizzing.”

The series will visit four New Zealand circuits over the summer months commencing in January at Highlands in Cromwell followed by Mike Pero Motorsport Park, Ruapuna in Christchurch, before heading to Hampton Downs near Auckland, with the final round at Bruce McLaren Motorsport Park at Taupo.

“My home track is Hampton Downs which is an advantage. I’ve regularly raced at Hampton and Taupo but I am less familiar with Highlands and new to Ruapuna. However, I’m looking forward to hitting the track with the six other McLarens and the other GT4 cars.”

“It will be quite the spectacle for not just us as drivers, but fans alike.”
