More great photos….

On Tuesday, Ross MacKay in his weekly column asked , ‘So, is a picture REALLY worth a thousand words?

Our photographers supplied us with some great images for Ross’s column. Here’s some more and what they liked about them.

Peter Whitten

“My favourite rally photo was one I took at Rally Australia in 1993, when the event was still based in Perth.

“My shot shows Toyota’s Didier Auriol jumping his Celica at the Muresk agricultural farm stage, and subsequently went on to win the CAMS Motorsport Photograph of the Year Award for 1993.

“This was in the days before auto focus cameras, and even before digital. It was a case of focus on the road where you wanted to take the photo, and hope for the best.

“I thought I had a good shot, but typically had to wait until I got home the next week when I had the film developed. Thankfully the result was everything I had hoped for.

“The following year at Rally New Zealand, I had Didier Auriol and Bernard Occeli sign the photo, and it hangs proudly on the wall in my house.

“There have been many more spectacular photos taken since, but this one holds a special place in my heart.” – Peter

Euan Cameron

“I like this image because in those years there was a Porsche race at the end of Saturday, and at Ruapuna (Christchurch) there were delays in the programme, so the GT3’s ran into the evening, making hot brakes more dramatic.” – Euan

“I had always been looking for the perfect pit shot at the South Island Enduros, and this image happened at Ruapuna in 2004.

“There was no posing, and some Photoshop work was done to add to the drama. This image won a major award  at the Australian Professional Photography Awards in 2006.” – Euan
