Shane Helms enters Aston Martin GT4 in Rodin Cars Super GT Series

Auckland driver Shane Helms will campaign the latest Aston Martin Vantage GT8R GT4 in the upcoming Rodin Cars Super GT Series which will start in January.

Helms has competed in a BMW E30 M3 for a number of seasons in endurance racing before stepping into an Audi TT VLN 2.5L Turbo which he has raced until recently.

“All of my racing has been in the North and South Island endurance series over the last few years in the Audi,” says Helms.

“I have purchased the new Aston Martin GT4, which I still haven’t driven yet… but we’ll get some running done before Xmas.

“The GT4 platform is great, they’re fast and reliable cars, and they’re cool. But also for me, it’s about racing against similar machinery that are similar in speed.”

“Sometimes you enter an endurance race and for the first couple of laps it’s all go, then you just settle into a groove and get to the end. I expect the actual racing in this series to be pretty close.”

Each round of the Rodin Cars Super GT Series will feature two 30-minute races along with one 60-minute race, all with a compulsory pit stop.

“The formats are perfect, though the cars should be relatively even, I think the timed pit stops will work well and will help tighten up the field.”

The Rodin Cars Super GT Series will consist of four rounds over three months commencing January 15, 2022, at Highlands in Cromwell.

This will be followed by the second round at the Mike Pero Motorsport Park, Rupauna in Christchurch on January 22-23, before heading to Hampton Downs on February 12-13. The final round will be in Taupo on March 26-27, 2022.
