The second day of the Targa Bambina was held in fine conditions and covered 133 kilometers split over eight special stages. The pairing of Dave Rogers and Shane Reynolds took home top honors in the Mitsubishi Evo after they ate into Jason Gills lead from the previous day to be in front on the third stage by the narrowest of margins.

Nigel Patterson’s BMW 335i ran faultlessly to pick up the trophy for the 3401cc and above class although the Butler’s did get the Cheetah back on the road after yesterday’s issues. The Modern 2WD 3401cc and above class was won by Mike Tubbs with John Thompson taking second place. Andrew Oakley maintained his lead over the Toyota Yaris of Nicolaas De Waal to win the Production 4WD class.

Gill was forced to retire on stage 14 with a overheated head gasket which allowed Rogers to manage his lead for the remaining stages “It’s been an epic battle but there was still a significant competitor (Jason Gill) there to keep me honest”. Mike Tubbs inherited second place 3 minutes 33 seconds adrift, while Andrew Oakley in the Audi RS5 finished in third place overall.

The big casualty was the Porsche of Tim James which spectacularly went off the road and into a power pole after the rear end gave way when the car went over a “yump”. Both Tim and co-driver John Mulrennan were able to exit safely. There were just three permanent retirees from the weekend.
