The Ashburton Car Club continues to lead the 2024 Canterbury Motorsport Interclub Series after both the second and third rounds were recently completed.

Round 2 was a Ratec organised Autocross at Loburn in May. Canterbury Car Club stalwart, Adrian Harris (Moke) stole the show with blistering time of 4:09.57 leading a cluster of three, Alan Groves (Charade), Scott Clark (WRX) and Mark Higgins (Evo 4), six-seconds behind with Ryan Denize (Fit) in fifth.

Ashburton Car Club were the biggest winners gaining 60-points to lead on 99 with both Canterbury and Ratec nipping at their heels.

Round 3 was the annual Ashburton Car Club, Timaru International Raceway June Sprint. With 39 entries of high quality and with the weather being perfect a close competition ensued.

Gareth Evans (Skyline) (main photo) leapt to a 10-second lead from the outset and the rest of the field set about catching him as the day rolled on.

On his fifth run, Gareth’s 3m 22.08 was his best and it would not be bettered. Terence Phillips took second in his Civic on run 4, just seven-seconds adrift but Corban Sprague (RX8) claimed the place with a 3m 25.14 time. Nathan Clark (WRX) and Jared Tubb (RX8) completed the top five.

Ashburton Car Club added 86 points to their total with Canterbury grabbing 69 and Ratec 19 with their two competitors.

Heading to Round 4, the Ruapuna Autocross next Saturday, Ashburton hold a 34 point lead over Canterbury.

The secret to winning is having the numbers! A minimum of 5 competitors from each club to earn a good helping of the points up for grabs.
