The annual Ashley Forest Rallysprint will see an Audi Quattro S2 Tribute Group B rally car on the entry list for 2024. The iconic event takes place over the weekend of the 21-22 September 2024, held at the Ashley Forest just outside of Rangiora in North Canterbury.
The iconic Audi will be piloted by Steve Cox with Laurie Brenssell in the co-driver’s seat.
Cox has competed in domestic rally events for a number of seasons. More recently the pairing has competed in a Toyota Starlet 1300 in Group A Historic specs before embarking on the building of the Audi Quattro.
Brenssell brings extensive experience to the team having co-driven for the likes of Chris “Rambo” Ramsay, Cameron Bates, Richard Mason, Grant Barber and Brendan Welch.
The car will attract some real interest from rally fans who remember the Quattro competing in the Group B era of the World Rally Championship.

The original Audi Quattro competition car debuted in 1980 and was the first rally car to take advantage of the then-recently changed rules that allowed the use of four-wheel drive in the World Rally Championship.
In 1981, Michèle Mouton became the first female driver to win a world championship rally, piloting an Audi Quattro.
The Quattro would go on to win the World Rally Championship for manufacturers in 1982 and 1984
and the driver’s championship in 1983 (Hannu Mikkola) and 1984 (Stig Blomqvist).
