Sloan Cox and the whole Cox Motorsport team are aiming for a clean run at this weekend’s Tanoa Paihia Hotel Rally of the North, after a tough last two events. Cox is excited to have a male voice back in the Co-Driver seat and we are fortunate that the experienced Malcolm Read has agreed to jump in at short notice.
This event, for the Cox Motorsport team, is about gaining valuable seat time, video footage and knowledge of the roads in the Paihia area ahead of next year’s event, which will feature in the New Zealand Rally Championship for the first time. The event will be all about learning and not searching for extra car speed, although keeping a good pace with the top runners is always the plan every time Cox gets into the Taslo Engineering Mitsubishi Evo X.
With the Evo X getting another thorough going over after the last event Rally Coromandel, the team believe they have overcome the overheating problems that plagued the car and are looking forward to gaining important mileage and testing to ensure the car is ready for future and longer events.
“After the last two events where we really had to push to bring the car to the finish, I cannot wait to get back into the Evo X this weekend. I am definitely feeling comfortable driving the car again and Rally of the North will ensure that I know the car like the back of my hand again” says Cox.
The action at Tanoa Pahia Hotel Rally of the North begins at 7.00am on Saturday morning. The team will undertake 171km of rallying over eight stages before finishing at the Williams Road car park in Paihia at 4.25pm. Live results from the rally can be found online at www.chrissport.co.nz or follow the Cox Motorsport facebook page for updates during the event.
