Dunedin rally driver Emma Gilmour has decided not to contest the Brian Green Property Group New Zealand Rally Championship’s third round – the Canterbury Rally this Sunday.
She has an unwell family member and her priority this week is to support their recovery.
“It’s always a difficult call to miss a national championship rally but my intuition is that it’s important for me to be close to home at the moment.”
Emma assures her supporters that all will be well in time and thanks them, along with her sponsors, for their understanding.
“Thanks also to the Paddon Rallysport team who have worked so hard to get my C3’s smashed wheel and suspension repaired in time for this weekend.”
The rally championship will take a mid-season break after Sunday’s Canterbury Rally, before moving to the North Island for Rally Coromandel, to be held on August 23. Emma and her Australian co-driver Ben Searcy will look forward to returning to the competition at this Whitianga-based rally in the Vantage Window & Doors Citroen C3.
Following Coromandel in August is the Tauranga-based Rally Bay of Plenty on October 11, before the second two-day round of the season, the International Rally of Whangarei, finishes off the season on November 7-9.
