Harris and Simpson win Westland Rally

Brad Harris and Glenn Simpson have won the opening round of the 2019 Mainland Rally Series. Driving a Mitubishi Evo6, the pair won five of the eight stages in the one-day Westland Rally on Saturday.

Second home were Garet Thomas/Gemma Thomas (Subaru WRX) with John Giltrap/Paul Millar (Mitsubishi Evo 9) third.

Josh Marston/Andrew Graves (Holden Barina AP4) won the opening and then the fifth stage but retired after Stage 6. Garet Thomas (Subaru WRX) won the sixth stage.

Notable retirements included Job Quantock (Skoda AP4) with a mechanical, Richard Bateman (Evo 9) who went off the road in Stage 4 and Marcus van Klink’s superb sounding Mazda RX8 with gearbox trouble in Stage 3.

The six round Mainland Series now heads to Rally Otago in 12-14 April.
