Judd and Buist in Mainland Rally Series title fight

It’s the final round of the Stadium Finance Mainland Rally Series and South Island rally drivers and teams head to Geraldine for the one day South Canterbury Rally on Saturday, the seventh round of this popular local derby. Deane Buist (pictured Ford Escort) has a narrow five point lead over Jeff Judd (Subaru) with 30 points up for grabs.

Matt Summerfield (Subaru) holds third in the series, 23 points adrift but is not entered in the rally. David Quantock lies fourth with Garet Thomas rounding out the top five.

Judd has won the last two rallies (Catlins Coast and Hanmer) in a series that has seen five different winner’s including Timaru’s Darren Galbraith who won the opening round in Westland.

The top seed for the rally is Christchurch’s Joshua Marston, with Mark Leonard from Timaru in the co-drivers seat.

The one-day rally compromises 80km of special stages and 90 km of touring. The first car gets underway at 10:45am and finishes back in Geraldine at 4:10pm.
