Organisers of the two-day Targa Hawke’s Bay rally are looking at moving the event to July due to lock-down measures likely to still be in place over the original 16-17 May weekend .

“With that in mind we recognise that trying to run Targa Hawkes Bay in May as originally scheduled is now no longer possible,” commented Peter Martin.  “We have proposed a date change to July 4-5th to each council,  with Targa NZ and NZ Silver Fern Rallies still to run on the original dates.

At this stage Martin is keen to get feed-back from participants.

“Clearly there will need to be a few changes to the processes around running events.  These include hand sanitisers and information about personal hygiene, reducing the potential for gatherings by having a written drivers briefing rather than a mass gathering in a room, staggered scrutineering and documentation to minimise crowds, bigger service areas and perhaps no longer providing lunches or prize giving dinners.

“We could also run the competition cars at two minute intervals and run the tour in smaller groups to spread them. There are also a number of other ways we can adjust the event to minimise any concerns.”
