Paddon in charge at Ashley Forest Rallysprint – Day 1

Hayden Paddon leads the field after three qualifying sessions to round out Saturday of the 2024 Ashley Forest Rallysprint. His fastest time of the day coming in the final session, laying down a 57.34 in his newest car to the fleet, the Hyundai I20 WRC. He was the only car to drop under the minute mark in the Pub Charity Unlimted 4WD class.

“Mega day first day at The Ashley Forest Rallysprint,” commented Paddon. “Was unreal feeling to be driving the WRC car on gravel again – felt like an old glove.”

Michael Tall would post the second quickest time in his Mitsubishi Mirage, laying down a 1:00.20 in his third and final run, sitting 2.86 seconds behind Paddon. Third outright was Sean Haggarty in his Subaru Impreza his last run of the day put down a respectable 1:01.56

Neil Webb was fourth in his Mitsubishi Mirage, a best time for him a 1:01.56 in his second run of the day matching Sean Haggarty’s time. Fifth was Gareth McLachlan in his Mitsubishi VR4 good enough for a time of 1:02.01,ahead of Hayden Paddon his Hyundai Kona EV did the first qualifying session before being parked up for the rest of the day his time sixth quickest with a 1:02.05.

Late entrant Sloan Cox Motorsport Ltd managed a 1:02.28 in his opening run before car troubles halted his second run. His time good enough for seventh in the Mitsubishi Evo Hillclimb Special.

Brand Mechanical rally 4WD belonged to first time entrant Emma Gilmour Rally Driver campaigning in her Citroen C3 Rally2, a time of 1:03.43. Dave Ollis in his Subaru WRX STI sits second in class. Sam Gardiner in his Subaru Legacy is third in class.

Harris Signs and Graphics Pre 1996 rally class is a new addition to the event, Corey MacAskill in his Subaru Impreza leads with a 1:05.51. He leads Shane McKenzie in his Mitsubishi Gallant VR4. Third in class is Vahur Ots in his Subaru Impreza Station wagon.

Chris Hey in his Toyota MR220 continues to lead Secure Scaffold unlimited 2WD, his time a 1:05.86. Drifter Alex Pirlea in his Nissan Silva V8 sits second in class on debut. Jeff Ward in his V8 powered BMW sits third in class.

John Silcock leads Parks engineering Classic 2WD in his Group B Mazda RX7 . David Owen in his Ford MKII Escort sits second in class. Tim McIver completes the top three in his Ford MKII Escort.

Shane Paget leads the Skip2U 1301-1600cc class his Toyota Starlet. Tim McDonald in his Toyota DX Corolla sits second in class. Rounding out the top three is Brendon Wadsworth in his Toyota Starlet.

Paul Roughan leads the Chris Herdman Builders 0-1300cc class in his Toyota Starlet. Chris Herdman sits second. Corban Radford sits third in class.

The Waimak bins Cross car class is led by Matt Penrose, with a1:00.44. Second in class is Jarrod Owens ahead of Harri Silcock.

Action gets underway with the final qualifying after the drivers briefing about 8:30 am.

Tickets are available at the gate with cash and EFTPOS. Children under 15 are free with a paying adult.
