So what is Extreme E?
Extreme E is an FIA-sanctioned international off-road racing series that uses spec electric SUVs to race in remote parts of the world, with racing locations chosen to raise awareness for some aspects of climate change.
Each race weekend consists of four rounds with seven races.
Two qualifying rounds (two races each) on Saturday, then the semi-finals (two races) and the final on Sunday. Points are awarded on finishing position and the four teams scoring the most points in qualifying move through to the first semi-final, with the top three cars proceeding to the final. The remaining five teams head to the second semi-final with the top two teams through to the final.
This weekend, nine teams and 18 drivers will race in very first Extreme E event, the Desert X Prix. It’s a world-first gender equal motorsport format featuring top driver talent including Jenson Button, Jamie Chadwick, Sébastien Loeb, Molly Taylor, Carlos Sainz and Sara Price. – Time Trial Qualifications on Saturday followed by multi-car racing on Sunday Finals.
