New Zealand race fans are set for a massive weekend of motorsport, with six spectacular support classes announced to race alongside the ITM Auckland Supercars SuperSprint at Pukekohe.
The event on November 3-5 at Pukekohe Park Raceway will see a record-equaling number of classes that include a wide range of vehicles from various eras to feed every fan’s passion.
The thunderous noise of the SAS Auto Parts MSC Formula 5000 class returns to Pukekohe for the first time on the current circuit configuration, with the famous single seater V8 race cars which were built and raced between 1968 and 1977.
At 75 years old, New Zealand’s best known and popular single-seater stalwart Ken Smith is set to celebrate a special anniversary while competing at the event. He first won the series, along with the three New Zealand Grand Prix titles, at Pukekohe four decades ago in a Lola T332 Formula 5000 car.
The newly named BNT V8s [previously V8 Touring Cars] are back again as they kick-off their fourth season at Pukekohe. With multiple V8 brands entered in this category, including Holden, Ford, Toyota and Nissan, the races are set to be a crowd favourite for local fans with their superb line-up of new and experienced drivers.
The Toyota 86 class will start their championship series, now one of the most popular of New Zealand’s single-make race categories. With little modifications allowed from the base car, the races are always close, fast and entertaining.
Keep an eye out for Jack Milligan who is fresh from his podium finish at the Toyota 86 class in Bathurst and Michael Scott who returns after his eye-catching crash at the event last year.
The hugely popular ENZED Central Muscle Cars are set to rumble once again at this years’ event. With a bumper field of the country’s best American and Australian Muscle Cars including classic models like the Mustang, Camaro, Falcon and Corvette, this class promises to be a real crowd pleaser.
With three successful seasons done and dusted, the SsangYong Actyon Ute Racing Series will be all geared up for round two of their new season at Pukekohe. With up to 30 identical SsangYong Actyon dual cab petrol powered utes hustling their way around the tight Pukekohe circuit, it’s certainly a recipe for some great thrills and spills.
Rounding up the support categories is the TradeZone GTRNZ series that returns to the ITM Auckland SuperSprint event after a two-year absence. This class features some of the fastest “Tin Top” saloons in the country due to the relaxed regulations of the category that sees no limits on modifications and power.
The ITM Auckland SuperSprint has much more to offer and is New Zealand’s biggest annual sporting event.
Tickets are now on sale at Ticketek for the ITM Auckland Supersprint, which will be decided on a new format with two longer 200km races on each of Saturday and Sunday. Family concessions mean kids 12 and under get access to trackside free (with a paying adult). Grandstand ticket prices are better value than ever with single day grandstand tickets available.
