Christchurch’s Marcus Armstrong has moved into third overall after the latest round of the ADAC F4 Championship. It was another positive weekend at Oschersleben for Prema Team as it remained on a winning form and at the top of the driver and team standings at the end of the fourth round of the ADAC Formel 4 Championship. The team also proved competitive with all the three cars fielded at the Motorsport Arena.
“Good weekend in Oschersleben,” commented Armstrong. “We felt quite comfortable from the beginning as we were quickest in Free practice. In qualifying I felt that I did a good job and also the car felt good but we only managed third.
“Race 1 went to plan, we took the lead on the opening lap and won the race. Race 2 we finished second and in the reverse grid race we collected good points with sixth. Overall we won the weekend, so it’s good that we are always improving.”
Moving past the half point of the season, 16-year-old Estonian Jüri Vips impressed again for his ability in securing valuable finishes for the championship. After finishing P6 in the two opening races, Vips cruised to podium in race 3 and his third place is what eventually enabled him to retain the championship lead with a 7-point margin.
Marcus Armstrong also left a great impression at Oschersleben as he now stands third in the driver championship, two points away from second place. The 16-year-old New Zealander cruised to a scintillating win in race 1 after taking the lead early, and then posted a second place in race 2 only to bring home more points with P6 in race 3. His stunning roll of honour now includes five podium finishes in the last six races.
Juan Manuel Correa was less lucky throughout the weekend. The American faced some struggles in qualifying and a race 1 spin which also conditioned his starting spot for race 3. In race 2, Correa scored a great fourth place confirming his potential.
