Armstrong now playing catch-up in Euro F3

With just nine races left in the 2018 Formula 3 Championship, Marcus Armstrong is now playing catch up after the last two difficult rounds. After leading the championship, Armstrong has now slipped to third overall 32-points behind rival Daniel Ticktum.

With 25-points on offer for a race win, the European based teenager ideally needs to win all three races at the Nurburgring this weekend, or at least finish on the podium. At the last round at Misano in Italy, he was able to qualify well for all three races but only scored points from the first race, finishing second.

It is a highly competitive and important series with last year’s winner Lando Norris now being announced as a McLaren F1 driver for 2019. Norris competed here in NZ winning the 2016 Toyota Racing Series. It was evident then that this young Brit would eventually make it through to Formula One.

Such was his talent that he finished on the podium 11/15 races, including winning the prestigious NZ Grand Prix. While Brendon Hartley may still retain his F1 seat in 2019, there is now speculation that Russian driver Daniil Kyvit may return to Hartley’s Scuderia Toro Rosso F1 team. This would mean three ex-TRS drivers could be on the grid for the start of the Formula One 2019 season

Overall Points 21/30 races (Top 5)

1 Ticktum 222
2 Vips 210
3 Armstrong 190
4 Schumacher 186
5 Aron 183,5
