Brendon Leitch is back in the USA

Southland’s Brendon Leitch is back in the US for the latest round of the US Formula 4 single seater championship at the Virginia International Raceway. Leitch struggled through the initial stages of the season but then scored three podiums including his first race and round win last time out at Mid-Ohio.

The F4 car is somewhat different from the Toyota Racing Series FT 50 car that he has campaigned now for several seasons. It has taken him some time to adapt and he now appears to have come to grips with what is required to be at the ‘pointy’ end of the field. At Mid-Ohio, the team was on top of the car and Leitch was at last on top of his driving.

The circuit at Virginia presents drivers with lots of twisty sections and some heavy breaking points with few passing opportunities. The weather is expected to be very warm and mental fatigue will play its part. Early this week Leitch was in South Carolina with his Kiwi Motorsport Team testing a new factory F4 car.

Leitch lies fifth overall on the championship table on 74 points, 130 behind leader Kyle Kirkwood. This weekend the largest field of 35 drivers will be behind the steering wheel in three races.
