Cassidy in the box seat heading to Okayama

With just two races to complete, Nick Cassidy has a three-point lead in the 2018 Super Formula season in Japan. This weekend the compact Okayama International Circuit hosts the sixth round and will challenge drivers with its narrow track and lack of escape zones. This shouldn’t faze Cassidy who finished third in last year’s race.

A podium for Nick Cassidy at the last round saw the Kiwi take the overall lead on the points table. Cassidy finished third to reigning series champion Hiroaki Ishiura who scored his first win of the season and fifth career win ahead of Ryō Hirakawa at the Twin Ring Motegi.

Cassidy is in the unique position of leading both the Super Formula (single-seater) and the Super GT (touring car) series. Coupled with this is the fact that he has enough Super Licence points to compete in Formula One, but so far his name hasn’t figured in the speculative driver market.

First his focus will be on securing the Super Formula championship as well as the Super GT Series with just three races left. This weekend’s 250 km (68 lap) race will be a challenge for drivers in choosing both the right strategy and best tyre combination for such a long race.
