Cassidy tenth in Super Formula at Okayama

A late spin for Kiwi driver Nick Cassidy has resulted in the loss of a potential podium at the latest round of the Super Formula Series in Japan.

“P10 today,” commented Cassidy. “Fastest car by a mile but unfortunately not much luck my way this weekend. Congrats to the team on a great result for them.”

In a race that teams expected rain, a number of factors played out including a safety car period, tyre strategy and late pitstops.

Cassidy started from 10th on the grid and saw him as high as second behind pole sitter Ryo Hirakawa.

A slower than expected pit stop for Cassidy then a fight with Kamui Kobayashi saw Cassidy spin out of contention.

Kenta Yamashita inherited the lead with a number of drivers pitting late and went on to take the checkered flag.

Two points for a P7 finish has given Naoki Yamamoto the championship points lead with 29, Cassidy is second with 28, Alex Palou 3rd with 25, Kenta Yamashita in 4th with 21, and Kamui Kobayashi with 19 points.

There is one round remaining at Suzuki 26-27 October 2019
