They say that communication is the key to any good relationship. Add in transparency which is an important key for good business relationships. Then people know what is happening and where they stand. Good decisions can then be made by all stakeholders and there is less gossip, presumption and speculation which do nothing but deteriorate and work against both end goals and relationships.
Take for example Toyota GAZOO Racing New Zealand. They need to be congratulated for the example that they have set this year. Well, they have to be. Previously over the winter period we have been kept in the dark about what is happening leading up to the next Castrol Toyota Racing Season. Then usually in December a raft of media releases come out naming the drivers that will appear on the grid at the opening round in January.
Already 2019 is proving to be different. The latest media release from Toyota this week World tour underway for Castrol Toyota Racing Series tells us that category manager Nicolas Caillol is heading overseas to both market the series and recruit prospective drivers for the 2020 season. It even goes to the extent of giving us his itinerary and which single seater category race meetings he will attend in both Europe and the USA.
No doubt there has been double the amount of communication between TRS and these different categories in preparation for the arrival of Caillol.
Already in 2019 we have had the release of the new TRS car for the 2020 season, the FT60 (May 2019). They have also put out a media release regarding the FIA granting winter championship status for TRS (drivers can count Super Licence points from a winter championship like TRS along with their summer championship points-haul instead of only being able to include one or the other).
Last weekend a joint release along with the Road to Indy Presented by Cooper Tires announced a partnership that will see up-and-coming drivers afforded new opportunities in both series to further their racing careers (Road to Indy and Toyota GAZOO Racing New Zealand Announce Partnership).
There has been plenty happening in the TRS off-season and we are all well informed. The excitement is already building towards the 2020 season opener at Highlands Motorsport Park, Cromwell, in January. We (drivers, teams, sponsors and fans) all know what is happening and can start making good decisions instead of speculating.
Expect more communication from Toyota GAZOO Racing New Zealand (maybe an increase in Super Licence points awarded) as we build to what could be the most exciting and competitive season since TRS started back in 2005.
Many of us just can’t wait for that opening race.
