Having qualified second fastest and finishing on the podium in the FIA Formula 2 Championship Sprint Race, luck left Liam Lawson in the Feature Race, finishing down in 15th.

“Had a really good start to the weekend,” commented Lawson. “Qualifying went nicely for us. The car was really fast, we actually had the speed for pole but it was a very messy end to the session and we were at the back of the pit lane as well so warm up was quite tough. But yes, happy to line up P2 for the Feature.”

“The Sprint Race was good, managed to go from ninth to third and the pace was good. Then today (Sunday) I had a decent start, was running 2nd, then we had a slow pit stop which put me out P7 I think, or P8.”

“Then got torpedoed by Doohan from behind, gave me a puncture and that was our race… So, really frustrating because again we had the pace but it’s another weekend coming away with very few points.”

Dennis Hauger claimed his first F2 Feature Race win after a tense battle with Jüri Vips that ended after the Hitech driver crashed out of the race. The pair were battling sector by sector in the closing stages and with just over five minutes remaining, the Hitech Grand Prix man clipped the wall in the castle section, handing the victory to Hauger.

With his third-place result, Felipe Drugovich increased his advantage over Theo Pourchaire by 15-points, who ended up outside of the top 10. The Brazilian is now 49 points clear at the top of the standings on 132 points. Jehan Daruvala remains in third, but Hauger’s win lifts him from 13th in the standings up to fourth. Armstrong is still in the top five despite his non-score (12th).

MP Motorsport retain the top spot in the Team Standings, now on 154 points. PREMA’s double points-finish moves the team up to second on 128 points, meanwhile ART’s now sit in third with 124 points.

Formula 2 action returns in two weeks’ time at Silverstone on July 1-3.
