Raced in atrocious wet conditions, the Yokohama wet tyre compound was expected to last the entire race so the strategy was on fuel saving to avoid making any pitstops.
However, what was not taken into consideration was that the race would finish on maximum time (90 minutes), rather than completion of the full 55-laps. In reality only 53-laps were completed.
So for the first 30-laps it was all about fuel until both driver and team realised the mistake.
Cassidy had nothing but praise for both his race engineer and team manager and the communication that took place during the race.
Finishing on the podium in third, Cassidy commented, “It was still a good result and made for an exciting last 20-laps.”
