Lawson after more points at Circuit Zandvoort this weekend

Liam Lawson sits fifth overall in the 2022 FIA Formula 2 Championship heading to Circuit Zandvoort this weekend in the Netherlands. The Kiwi driver had a successful round at Spa-Francorchamps, Belgium, last weekend winning the Sprint Race and finishing on the podium in the Feature.

“Zandvoort is just a crazy circuit, I am looking forward to the banking and the elevation, all of that, I think it’s a very exciting driver circuit,” commented Lawson. “Spa was good, we need Zandvoort to be better.”

With a title fight edging ever closer to its conclusion, there’s still plenty to play for up and down the field and the drivers will need to be ready to go duelling in the dunes around the track’s 14 twisty turns as the Formula 2 field enters uncharted terriority for Round 12, making its debut at Zandvoort.

Felipe Drugovich has one hand on the Drivers’ Championship, holding a 43-point advantage over his nearest rival Théo Pourchaire heading into the final three rounds of the 2022 campaign. Australian Jack Doohan’s Feature Race victory last weekend has promoted him to fourth, only eighth points behind Logan Sargeant, whilst Liam Lawson moves back up into the top five.

Over in the Teams’ Championship, the battle upfront has gotten even closer. ART Grand Prix’s lead over Carlin has been slashed to just 10 points, whilst MP Motorsport has closed up to within 20 points of the leaders, courtesy of three points-scoring finishes at Spa.
