After finishing on the podium last weekend in the FIA Formula 2 Championship Feature Race at the British F1 Grand Prix, Liam Lawson will be hunting for more points and preferably race wins as the series heads to Austria this weekend.
The first half of the F2 season concludes at The Red Bull Ring in Spielberg and a good points haul is needed to set Lawson up for an attack on championship in the 14 races that follow. He currently sits fifth overall on the points table.
“The Red Bull Ring is a track that I very much enjoy driving,” commented Lawson. ”A lot of very high speed sections, Sectors 2 and 3, very fast with a bit of low speed mixed in there as well.
“The place itself is very nice, beautiful track and surroundings. The atmosphere in recent years has been pretty awesome, special to be part of it.
“I’m looking forward to driving, being in the mountains the weather can be pretty changeable, that can make things quite interesting.
“It’s a home track for us of course, I’ve had a decent amount of success in the past both in Formula 3 and last year in the DTM.”
Felipe Drugovich continues to stand well-clear at the top of the Drivers’ Championship on 148-points, although Théo Pourchaire has clawed back some ground in second. Logan Sargeant is third, eight points ahead of Daruvala while Lawson has moved up five places to fifth on 59-points.
In the Teams’ Championship, ART Grand Prix’s run of points finishes has allowed them to cut MP Motorsport’s advantage at the top of the standings to only 10 points – as 170 points play 160. Carlin skyrocket up from fifth to third on 147, as PREMA Racing fall to fourth. Hitech Grand Prix are in fifth on 118 points.
