An excited Liam Lawson heads to the Silverstone circuit as the first half of the FIA Formula 2 Championship concludes this weekend. After nine of 24 races, Lawson sits eighth overall on 50-points, 38 behind leader Gyanyu Zhou.
“I’m excited to be back at Silverstone in a single seater, it’s probably the best track on the calendar, at least it’s my favourite,” commented Lawson “I love the layout and I think that in an F2 it’s going to be even better. It’s got the perfect combination of high speed, low speed, it’s very flowing. I like it a lot.
“The team’s based here and last year Hitech were quite strong. The goal is basically to have a clean weekend. It doesn’t need to be a maximum, we are not going out to try and win everything, we just need to have a clean weekend, make up the points on the leaders. With the new format it’s quite hard to score consistently through all the races, so that’s the main goal.
“We are always developing the car and looking at new ideas and the team is really on it with that side of things but the issue at the moment is not our speed, our speed’s great. For us it’s just having that clean weekend and maximising those points.
“We had a great start in Baku with the pole but it just shows how quickly things can go sideways. We just need to be on top of those things because the speed is there.”
