Returning to the Circuit Paul Ricard for the first time since 2019, the 2022 FIA Formula 2 Championship heads to Le Castellet for the ninth round of the season. Two Kiwi drivers are in the top ten with Marcus Armstrong sitting fifth and Liam Lawson in tenth overall.
Armstrong comes off the back of a win in the Sprint Race at the previous round in Austria while Lawson needs to regain confidence with a top result, particularly in qualifying.
“It’s a unique circuit, from the helicopter view it’s a cool looking place. Quite long, very very technical,” explains Lawson.
“In Qualifying it will be quite difficult to put in the perfect lap. It’s quite an exciting track to drive, it will be interesting to see what they do with track limits this weekend as well.
“I think that the (tyre) degradation in the past has been reasonably high and especially with the temperatures we are looking at having, it’s going to be quite warm, so that will be a factor.
“Two weekends now before the break, it will be nice to go into that break with two solid weekends under our belt.”
Felipe Drugovich holds on to the lead in the Drivers’ Championship by 39-points. However, there’s a new title challenger in the form of Logan Sargeant. Back-to-back Feature Race victories has helped catapult him into second, one point separates him and third-place man, Théo Pourchaire.
The Sprint Race gets underway at 6pm Saturday local time (4:00am Sunday NZ) with the Feature Race at 9:30am on Sunday (7:30pm Sunday NZ time).
