Liam Lawson (16, New Zealand, Van Amersfoort Racing) took his third win of the season at the fourth round of the ADAC German Formula 4 Championship at the Red Bull Ring and continues to sit second overall on the points table.

“It was an excellent race and a great weekend,” commented Lawson. “We were able to take more points out of Zendeli, so that was good too,” said young Lawson. “We’ll go on working hard.”

Lawson had finished third earlier on Saturday, was first across the line at the Red Bull Ring, coming home in front of team-mate Frederik Vesti (16, Denmark, Van Amersfoort Racing) and reducing the gap to 24 points on championship leader Lirim Zendeli (18, Germany, US Racing CHRS), at the half-way stage in the season.

Currently in second place overall in the standings, Lawson started from third place on the grid and after six laps overtook rookie Niklas Krütten (15, Germany, ADAC Berlin-Brandenburg eV) to take the lead. Earlier Krutten had got by pole-sitter Andreas Estner (17, Germany, Neuhauser Racing) at the first turn. Krütten in third place took his second podium finish of the season, increasing his lead in the Rookie classification on his rival, David Schumacher (16, Germany, USA Racing CHRS) to 13 points.

Enzo Fittipaldi (16, Brazil, Prema Theodore Racing) and Zendeli were the winners of the first two of three ADAC Formula 4 races . Fittipaldi, grandson of two-time Formula 1 world champion Emerson Fittipaldi, claimed a lights-to-flag first win of the season. Zendeli, who leads the championship at the halfway stage, secured win number six of the season in a second race that was punctuated by safety car deployments.

At the opening race of the weekend Lawson again finished on the podium (third) after starting the uneventful race from third.

In the second race the Kiwi teenager started from 12th and spun on the opening lap. He then managed to claw his way back through the field in a race punctuated by two safetly car periods to finish an impressive sixth.

In six weeks’ time, the ADAC Formula 4 drivers will be back in action again at the Hockenheimring after their summer break to contest races 13 and 14 during the German Formula 1 Grand Prix.
