Current Castrol Toyota Racing champion driver Liam Lawson will start from 14th on the grid for this afternoon’s race 1 at the second TRS round held at Teretonga Park in Invercargill. Two red flags interrupted the 15 minute qualifying session. The result was a number of top drivers not getting a fast lap in the remaining time.
“We didn’t do a (qualifying) lap at all,” exclaimed Lawson. “The time is right there, we spent the two laps warming up then it went red flag.”
The first red flag was due to fellow Kiwi driver Chelsea Herbert hitting the tyre wall on the main straight. Herbert was sent to hospital as a precautionary measure. Once the session got underway again there were approximately five minutes remaining. This was also interrupted when Rui Andrade came to a stop over the back of the circuit bringing the session to a halt.
The 20-lap Race 1 gets underway at 15:09. Sunday sees a second qualifying session to determine the grid for race 3 in the afternoon. Race two gets underway Sunday morning with the grid determined by race 1 placings plus a marble draw determining a reverse of either the top six or eight positions.
