It’s the final round of the FIA Formula 2 Championship at Abu Dhabi this weekend which will see Liam Lawson back in action at the Yas Marina Circuit. On top of the final F2 racing, Lawson will also get to drive Max Verstappen’s Red Bull F1 car in Free Practice 1 tonight (Friday).
This will be his third session in a F1 car this year having driven an Alpha Tauri in two separate FP1 sessions at the Belgium and Mexico Grand Prixs.
“I’m very excited for the last weekend of the season, finishing the year on a high is obviously the goal,” commented Lawson. “It’s a track I really like, I enjoy driving here, I had my first F1 experience here so it’s got good memories.
“It’s a cool place and we had a pretty good test here last year so we know where to start with the car, so I don’t see any reason why we can’t end with a great couple of races, it hasn’t been the season that we wanted but we can still finish strongly.”
It is also expected that Lawson will be chosen by Oracle Red Bull Racing as their driver for the ‘Young Driver’ post-season test no Tuesday, also at the Yas Marina Circuit.
Lawson sits seventh overall on the F2 leaderboard, including three race wins this season.
