With just six races remaining in the 2021 FIA Formula 2 Championship season the battle recommences in Saudi Arabia after a nine week break. Liam Lawson sits eighth on the points table after 17-races.

“Of course it’s a new track for everyone,” commented Lawson. “I’m sure we’ve all done plenty of simulator work so I guess it’s going to be interesting to see who’s team has the most accurate simulator and how close that is going to be.

Scheduled to make its F1 debut this weekend, the Formula 1 STC 2021 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix will mark its arrival in style with the newest circuit in the sport estimated to see drivers reach average speeds of 250km/h, making it the fastest street circuit in the world – and in the top five fastest F1 circuits altogether!

“I quite like the layout, from what I’ve done so far, it’s quite interesting. There are not really any straights, it’s pretty much left right sections one after another, I think overtaking is going to be quite tough.”

Featuring no less than 27 corners, the Jeddah Corniche Circuit stretches to 6.175km in length, making it the second longest circuit on the current F1 calendar behind the legendary Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps and the longest street circuit in the sport.

“We go out on track one of the first sessions so it’s going to be very low grip to start with, we’ll need to be careful.”

“I’ve got to make the most of Free Practice, get as many laps done as we can, to go into Qualifying as well prepared as possible. Obviously the championship is a bit out of the window so we are going for highlights, to have some good races and race wins to finish off the season.”

The title battle looks set to go to the wire as Formula 2 prepares to head to Jeddah for the first time. Oscar Piastri leads Guanyu Zhou by 36-points with three races this weekend before the season finale at Yas Marina the following week.
